This is a head-and-shoulder portrait of Mr. Othman bin Wok, Minister for Social Affairs from November 1963 to 1977. He was a student of Telok Blangah Malay School and Raffles Institution; Reporter (1946), Chief Reporter (1951), News Editor of Utusan Melayu in Singapore (1955-1961) and later Deputy Editor of Utusan Melayu in Kuala Lumpur (1961-1963); Minister for Culture (Sep 1965-Apr 1968); Minister without Portfolio (1977-1981); Secretary of Singapore Printing Employees' Union (1951-1954); Chairman of Singapore National Union of Journalists (Feb-Aug 1961); President of Singapore Olympic and Sports Council (Apr 1966-Sep 1970); Chairman of National Sports Promotion Board (1970-1973); Ambassador to Indonesia (Jun 1977-1980); Member of People's Action Party's Central Executive Committee (1963-1979) and Singapore Tourist Promotion Board (1981-1993); and People Action Party's Member of Parliament for Pasir Panjang (Sep 1963-1977).
