This is a head-and-shoulder portrait of Mr. Tan Siah Kwee (陈声桂), Member (1974-1977), Honorary Assistant Secretary (1978-1993) and later Vice-President of Singapore Arts Federation, formerly Singapore Arts Council (1994-1997). He was an art teacher (1979); part-time lecturer at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (1974-1982, 1985-1986); Principal of Manjusri Secondary School (1983-1984); lecturer of Chinese calligraphy at Department of Extramural Studies in National University of Singapore (1981-1990); Dean of Singapore Institute of Chinese Calligraphy (1990-to date); lecturer at Singapore Calligraphy Centre (1995-to date); President of Chinese Calligraphy Society of Singapore (1978-2008); Head of the Languages Department at Tampines Junior College (17 years); Lecturer of Chinese Calligraphy at Centre for Chinese Language and Culture in Nanyang Technological University and Department of Chinese Studies in National Institute of Education (1995-2004). He was awarded the National Youth Service Award in 1978 for his contributions to the art of Chinese calligraphy. He was also conferred the Public Service Medal (PBM) in 1991 and the Cultural Medallion in 2000. TItle devised by Library staff.
