This is the façade of Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus (Katong) Primary at 17, Martia Road. Katong Convent was established in 1930 as a private English primary school. In 1932, it became a government-aided school. It was relocated to 346, Marine Terrace in December 1986. The new premises was declared open by Mr. Goh Chok Tong, First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Defence and Member of Parliament for Marine Parade, on 30 July 1988. On 27 March 1990, the primary section of Katong Convent merged with CHIJ Opera Estate (established in 1959) to form CHIJ (Katong) Primary and occupies the renovated premises at 17, Martia Road. Katong Convent Secondary School remains at Marine Terrace and became "CHIJ Katong Convent". The secondary school was granted autonomous status by Ministry of Education in 2003. Past principals of CHIJ Katong Primary include Mrs. Doris Teoh Soon Neo (Mar 1990-Nov 1991); Miss Brenda Yeow Chien Chien (Nov 1991-Jun 1997); Mrs. Magdalene Bheem nee Chin Ming Yew (陈明有, 1997-2001); Mrs. Margaret Tan nee Margaret Lee Soon Kee (陈顺枝, 2005-Dec 2009); and Madam Geraldine See Sue-Lyn (施素玲, Dec 2009-to date).
