Information About

This 1986 photograph shows a side view of one of the buildings of Grand Hotel, located at Still Road South. The Victorian-style building has architectural features like decorative arches and plaster facade decorations. The octagonal structure at one end of the building and a balcony with iron lacework railings are depicted in the picture. Grand Hotel, a Victorian-style complex was previously used as a private residence by Moona Kadir Sultan, a wealthy Indian merchant. The complex was then named Karikal Mahal, after the merchant’s hometown of Karikal in Tamil Nadu (India). Grand Hotel was established in 1947 and closed in 2000. Title devised by Library staff.
