This is a head-and-shoulder portrait of Mr. Punch Coomaraswamy in court robes and wig. He was Judge of the Supreme Court of Singapore (1984-1993); Deputy Speaker (1966) and later Speaker of Parliament (1966-1970); High Commissioner to India, Ceylon and Sri Lanka (1970-1973); Ambassador to Nepal (1970-1973); High Commissioner to Bangladesh (1972-1973) and to Australia and Fiji (1973-1976); Ambassador to the United States and Brazil (1976-1984); and Chairman of the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) Board of Trustees (1984-1996). Mr. Coomaraswamy was conferred with United Kindgom's Pacific War Medal in 1946 and the Singapore Government's Meritorious Service Medal in 1980. Title devised by Library staff.
