This is a pre-1914 photograph from E. A. Brown's collection. It shows Sun Kee Eating House which is at the corner of a three-storey shophouse on Upper Hokkien Street in Chinatown. These shophouses with shuttered windows and covered ‘five foot’ walkways at street level were typical in the 1900s. The sign over the door advertised “Cakes, Ice Cream and Coffee”.
