This is the main entrance of Hwa Chong Junior College at 661, Bukit Timah Road, flanked by flagpoles. It is the first government-aided junior college in Singapore and it started functioning on 2 January 1974, first at the premises of National Junior College at Linden Drive, and then in March 1974 at the former campus of University of Singapore in Bukit Timah. The college moved to its permanent premises at Bukit Timah Road on 14 June 1974. In 2005, it merged with Chinese High School (华侨中学) to form Hwa Chong Institution (华侨中学). Past principals of Hwa Chong Junior College are Mr. Lim Nai Tian (1974-1976); Mr. Wu Tsung Kan (吴从干, 1976-1979); Mr. Lim Kim Woon (1979-1980); Mr. Bernard Fong Fook Chak (Jun 1980-Dec 1988); Mr. Chan Tung Fong (Jan 1989-1992); Madam Leong Fan Chin (梁环清, 1993-1998); and Mr. Ang Wee Hiong (Dec 1998-Dec 2004).
