Information About

This picture depicts the façade of the three-storey Tao Nan School (道南学校) at 39, Armenian Street. The School was established by Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan in November 1906. Classes were original held at the residence of Mr. Tan Kim Cheng (陳金钟, 1829-1892), a wealthy Hokkien merchant, on North Bridge Road. The school was relocated to Armenian Street in 1912, and to Marine Parade in 1982. In 1957, the school became a Government-aided school. The old school building on Armenian Street was redeveloped into Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM), which opened on 22 April 1997. In 2003, after ACM was relocated to Empress Place Building, it was converted into Peranakan Museum, which opened in 2008.
