The Master Plan for the State of Singapore was prepared by the Singapore Improvement Trust between 1952 to 1955 and approved by the Government in 1958. The Planning Ordinance of 1960 requires the master plan to be reviewed every 5 years. The first review was conducted in 1965, the second review in 1970, the third review in 1975, and the fourth review in 1980. This is the fifth review, and this statement accompanies the revised Master Plan (1985). It contains alterations made to the master plan, and a summary of the main proposals with the description of proposals illustrated on maps. The revised master plan makes provision for development up to 1990.
