This book is written for anyone interested in Chinese culture, life and thought. It is a compilation of notes, divided into sections, on a wide spectrum of things Chinese. The text is accompanied by over 100 sketches and drawings by the author. Section One deals with Chinese beliefs, superstitions and legends. It also describes the Chinese view of after-life and the spirit world, festivals and traditional customs related to religious beliefs. Section Two covers Chinese secular practices such as calligraphy and Tai Ji Chuan, the marriage ceremony, lion and dragon dances. A selection of prominent personalities, politicians, scholars, sages, poets, and artists and a few of the many famous buildings and places of interest from China's rich and long cultural and historical past appears in Section Three. Section Four describes and explains Chinese artefacts, everyday utensils such as chopsticks, chairs and the geomantic compass are also included.
