Sebastian Munster depicts Asia separate from the Americas. Using Pigafetta's memiors of Magellan's voyage as a source, he correctly marks Borneo (Porne) and Halmahera (Gilolo vel Siloly), although his placement is somewhat arbitrary. Sumatra receives its modern name and Java (Iava Maior) has a phantom offspring (Iava Minor) to its north. The Moluccas Islands correctly appear just off Halmahera's west coast. Taranate (Teranata) is named. The cities of Malacca (Malaqua) on the peninsula, and Pego to the north are marked and well placed. However, Munster still retains much of the old Ptolemaic nomenclature such as "regio aurea", first seen on the Rome edition of 1478. -- Dealer's description.
