This is a publication of the exhibition of artistic metalwork by the peoples of Central Asia and the Caucasus dating from the 17th to the early 20th, jointly organised by the National Museum and the Embassy of the USSR. The richness and diversity of the arts in that part of Russia which comprises Turkmenia, Kazakhstan, Kirghizia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, the Caucasus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Daghestan and Georgia are most apparent in the great range and variety of jewellery, metal ware and weapons which have been assembled from the vast collections of the State Museum of Oriental Art in Moscow and the State Museum of the Arts of Georgia in Tbilisi.
