"Golden feathers" is part of a collection of Jātaka stories, which are used to teach Buddhist values. In this story a mother and her three daughters are presented with a golden feather by a golden swan every day. Soon, however, the mother becomes greedy and wants all the feathers at once. She catches the swan and plucks its feathers. In her hands, the golden feathers turn white and therefore worthless. The swan then grows new feathers, which are also white. Soon the swan flies off, never returning to the family.
