This Committee report recommends that legislation on Advance Medical Directives is required to provide patients with the legal means to continue to exercise autonomy over their medical treatment even when they are incompetent and in the final stages of their terminal illness. Procedures and safeguards have been proposed to prevent misuse or abuse of the legislation.
