In this second edition, three new chapters have been added to cover commercial orchid farming, the handling of cut flowers and the quaint usage of orchids as medicine or food. The other chapters have been revised to bring them up to date. Half the photographs have been replaced by new ones. The author attempts to combine a quick review of the horticulturally more important orchid tribes of the Asian lowlands with basic essential information on orchid needs, hybridisation, diseases, a simplified approach to orchid culture and the aesthetic appreciation of the orchid. It is written originally as an introduction to the wonderful world of Asian orchids for the orchid grower and for people who love flowers. The photographs were taken on location at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, at various commercial nurseries in Singapore, in the homes of friends and at the author's own home.
