Storytelling in schools : general guidelines

This is a publication by the English Unit, Curriculum Planning and Development Division, Ministry of Education of Singapore. The division is aware that schools have taken initiatives to encourage the use of Standard English and one of these ways is to expose pupils to good models of speech. Among such activities, storytelling is known to be relevant and interesting, besides being enjoyable. The objectives of this publication are to provide opportunities for pupils to listen to good models of spoken English; and to use storytelling as a springboard for the learning of not only listening skills but also the language skills of speaking, reading, writing and oral interaction.
