This is a biography of Lee Hau-Shik. It follows his life from the early part of the 20th century until 1959 and beyond. It examines the role he played in helping Malaya gained independence from the British, and his influence in the socio-political and economic life of Malaysia. Besides being the founding father of the Malayan Chinese Association, Lee was also Malaysia's first Finance Minister after independence. Upon leaving politics, he started the Development & Commercial (D&C) Bank in 1966. He passed away in 1988.
