This book contains about 250 stories of humour. Though concise in volume, it spans over 2500 years from the feudal period of Confucius and Mencius to the present day. The author attempts to introduce to western readers a limited part of the Chinese humour mostly drawn from the various published books as well as a few collected from current newspapers. It is conceived as a pointer to the free flow of cultural exchange between the East and the West. What may be of interest to the westerners is that the value of an allegory is not expressed by words but is implied in connotations. Such expressions therefore underscore a sense of humour and strike a note of lucidity.
