This is an account of the two and a half months journey commencing on 1st March 1834, from Singapore to the west coast of Borneo undertaken by the author to explore direct trade with the Chinese settlers working in the gold mines in Sinkawan. He describes the towns and ports he visited, the Malays, the Dyaks and people he met, like the raja and the governor of Montradok and encounters with wild boars and monkeys.
