Compendium consisting of six scholarly papers written in the late 1880s, by an honorary member of the Straits Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society, the Rev. J.E. Tenison-Woods. The first work, "Fisheries of the Oriental region", gives an account of the fisheries trade in the Straits Settlements and the Malay Archipelago, together with a scientific description of the species of marine fishes found in the region. The second paper focuses on the geography of various countries in Southeast Asia and Japan, while the third paper describes the species of land and freshwater mollusca inhabitating the Malay Peninsula. A fourth paper provided a botanical study of the flora and fauna of the region, and another paper reported on an exploratory expedition to a mountain peak in Perak. The last paper in the collection dealt with the geology and mineralogy of the Northern Territory of Australia.
