My School Story: I remember RGPS at the old Queens Street campus-it had a sweeping staircase leading to the upper floors, a grand sight to behold for someone who lived in a small HDB flat! There were usually hawkers right outside the school, the most famous of which was a 'ting ting man', who chipped away at a block of sweets, generously coated with white flour. My friends and I would save for days to afford the 5 cents version, smiling at each other through flour coated mouths when we finally were able to afford a small packet of sweets. it was often a struggle to share-these were prized sweets and very seldom afforded, so there would always be a momentary struggle to be generous or devour all for ourselves, but fortunately generosity would usually win the day. My favourite teacher was Mrs Ching. I think she first taught me good dress sense- she would be immaculately dressed, with different hair pieces she used on different days. I thought she was the most beautiful teacher ever, and I adored her. Often I would wait fir her to arrive, and helped her to carry her bags ir books. Ny act of service I could do for her was a great privilege to me, and made my day. I worked very hard the year she taught me, in order to gain her approval. Years later, when I enrolled my daughters at RGPS, I was so very happy to see her again, looking as elegant as ever. (Collected from MOE ExCEL Fest 30-31 Mar 2012).
