My father used to live at Geylang Bahru when he was a teenage around age 13. During that time, people were not very rich, so we came up with many games to past time. My father spent most of his time playing games with children in the neighbourhood. He spent more time on playing than on his studies.
Whenever he got home from school, he would just leave his bag in his room and gather some friends to go out to the sandy area down the block to play with marbles. It was a rather popular game among the children in his time. Also they will go to the vegetation to catch spiders, where they then placed them into empty matchboxes. These spiders were not pet, but 'toys'. My father would go around asking if anyone wants to play spider fight with him. They would place 2 spiders into a matchbox and watch them fight.
Around late noon, my father would go to the playground at Boon Keng to play. It's not that there wasn't a playground in his neighbourhood, but that the playground at Boon Keng had a swing. Well I would say swing is really fun, till now even at the age of 13, I still play it.
