Water Supply In Singapore

Recollection
Water Supply In Singapore This is the story of my aunt's memory of the water supply in Singapore many years ago in 1960s. At that time she was staying in Geylang in the Kampong. During that time she had to get water from a central area which was two hundred meters away from her house. She had to take about 4 buckets of water to the central area to queue up for the water. Then she had to use a bamboo pole to hang the 2 buckets of water on her shoulders and carry them to her house. Then she will store them in a big tank. She will take the two empty buckets to queue for the water again. She had to continue the work till the tank was full. The water was used for cooking only. She had to do this everyday when she came back from school. This is my aunt's story of her childhood when Singapore was poor and many people did not have water tap in their house and have to take from a common tap outside the house.
