Meeting Derek Fitzgerald of the Thunderbirds

Recollection
In 2007, I had the opportunity to work on a music project involving local musicians in Singapore from the 1960s to current. It was a thrill for me to be involved because I am a fan of local music, especially the bands and acts from the 1960s. One of the musicians I met was Derek Fitzgerald, a singer from the 1960s local band The Thunderbirds. At the time of the interview, he was singing with his band at the Carriage Bar at York Hotel, Singapore. I had seen them perform live before, but was excited to meet him for the first time. I remember for the interview which we videoed, he brought along a special vinyl-folder-holder of every single Thunderbirds 45-inch vinyl. He kept a copy of all their vinyl releases! Both EPs and singles. Being a vinyl-collector myself, it was so exciting for me to see and touch all these priceless gems up close. This photo shows me happily examining the records that Derek Fitzgerald brought. A moment I will never forget!
