During the 1980s, my father and his family would go to the Loyang Government Chalet once a year as a family outing during the holidays to spend time with each other as everyone was mostly busy with office work. Back then, it was known as Loyang Chalet but now it is called Loyang Aloha Chalet. The chalet was also turned into a quarantine centre during the 2003 SARS period. As the Chalet was located near Pasir Ris beach, my father would go cycling or jogging with his brother and sisters almost every morning when they were there. They would play Mahjong with my great grandmother to train up her brain power and memory to decrease her chances to getting senile easily. What's more, she enjoyed playing the game and was an expert at it. According to my father, he remembers that it was a two storey chalet and it was quite new at that time. Also, because my aunts were working a civil servants, they got a discounted rate to the rental and therefore, could afford to rent the chalet for around 3 or 4 days every year.
