Clean and Green Singapore Campaign 2012

Recollection
Why do we need to keep our country clean? Why can’t we throw rubbish all over the place? Many of these unanswered questions flood many people’s minds. Well, it all starts with a small act. We can throw all the rubbish all over the place in Singapore and the make the place dirty. However, people who throw rubbish is not aware of the consequences. Tourists may visit us and their first impression would be that Singapore is dirty and would not visit us again. Is that what we want? Moreover, we might contract diseases like AIDS. Is that what we want too? I do not think so. Therefore, my point is being clean helps to keep the environment a wonderful area to live and we must be considerate towards others. I have taken part in the “Clean and green Singapore Campaign 2012” which was organised by the Ministry of Environment and Water and was held on 29 October 2011 to October 2012. Clean & Green Singapore (CGS) aims to inspire Singaporeans to care for and protect our living environment by adopting an environmentally-friendly lifestyle. This is a perfect aim. This campaign inspires me to have clean habits. Through this campaign, I learnt that great value is often associated with a clean city and that a clean city is a strong reflection of our moral and civic values. That is definitely true. If we are dirty, people will think the governing system is wrong. Fortunately, Singapore is a clean and green city. But clean cities do not just come by chance. They require much responsibility and dedication to maintain. During this campaign, I tried my best to be clean. I cleaned up beaches together with the my friends. I encouraged my friends to be clean. My friends and I have also done talks in our school regarding the cleanliness of Singapore. We also made posters in our school. Schools will adopt the schools' surroundings such as walkways and bus stops outside the schools. Students will be scheduled to carry out regular litter patrol to pick up visible litter, report cleanliness lapses such as overflow of litterbin to the relevant authorities, recognise good behaviour of their fellow school mates, and etc. at least once a term. The good news is I was one of the students. I spotted many students littering. Expectedly, I will have to take down their names. Sometimes, it is the passers by doing the act. However, I have to play my part. Therefore, I hesitated will go and tell them. Some will appreciate me while others ignore me. Therefore, I have to pick up the litter by myself. Taking part in this campaign was really fun and I would like that this types of useful campaign to be organised.
