From "Guli" to iPad

Recollection
The above picture shows an old game which our generation would not know of, It was a popular game known as 'Guli" played during my father's childhood days! Back then, my father was very playful. He played all sort of games such as five stones, catching spiders and guli when he was young, especially during his primary school years. He told me that his favourite game was "Guli". When I first heard the name of the game, I curiously asked, "What kind of game is that?". My father then explained to me that "Guli" simply meant "marbles", a word that was borrowed from Hokkien into Malay. The game, "Guli", is just small coloured glass marbles where players hit their opponents' marbles to win the game. The player who won the most number of marbles became the leader of the group. It was a fun game that has a different set of rules to play in different cultures of different countries. However, gone are the days where "Guli" was a popular children's game. No longer do you see children with a bag of glass marbles playing together on the ground. Now, it is just children with their iPods or iPads, busy tapping here and swiping there. Although "Guli" is history, the memories of my father playing "Guli" happily with his friends are alive and living in his heart.
