Ladies and gentlemen

1. Good morning and a warm welcome to the Bukit Merah Public Library.

2. We are standing in one of the earliest public libraries. This was the fourth library to be opened to the public, back in 1982. Today marks an important milestone in the history of Bukit Merah Public Library.

3. We have lined up a host of exciting activities to celebrate the occasion. To our young visitors, I hope you will enjoy the exciting storytelling sessions, and art and craft workshops during the school holidays. Please tell your parents to bring you here and have a fun time at the library.

4. On behalf of the National Library Board, I would like to thank Mr Sam Tan for joining us today in commemorating Bukit Merah Public Library's 30th anniversary celebrations. I would also like to express our appreciation to our partners who have worked closely with us in bringing innovative programmes to the community. My heartfelt thanks to the volunteers, friends of the library, colleagues and everyone who have helped to put together the anniversary celebrations. Your dedication and passion add to the soul of the library.

Thank you.
