1. Who can volunteer at NLB?
We welcome everyone who is a NLB member with MyLibraryID or with a valid NRIC or FIN number to register as a volunteer at NLB.
2. When will I know if my volunteering application is successful?
We promise to get back to you in 5 to 7 working days. A welcome email will be sent to the email address you have indicated in your application form.
3. When can I start volunteering?
As soon as you receive your volunteer account details. Slots for volunteering opportunities are available on a first come first serve basis.
4. How do I log in to my volunteer account?
Your username will be the email address you have indicated in the registration form. If you have forgotten your password, click here to reset your password.
5. Is there a minimum commitment?
We know life is busy, we have volunteering opportunities that do not require a minimum commitment.
6. Can I volunteer without signing up for a session, or if I have not received a confirmation email?
We appreciate your interest in volunteering with NLB. We strongly encourage interested volunteers to sign up for the session, as only registered volunteers who receive the confirmation email from NLB can volunteer for the session.
7. Will I be trained before I volunteer?
We will show you how on the day you come for the volunteering opportunity you have registered for.
If the volunteering tasks requires additional training, we will be in touch with you beforehand.
8. What is the dress code for volunteers?
We recommend comfortable attire of shirts or blouses, long pants, covered shoes or your school uniform. Bring a jacket as it can get chilly in our libraries and archives. Do avoid any sleeveless t-shirts, blouses, shorts, miniskirts, sandals, slippers, open toed and high heel shoes.
9. When will my volunteering hours be updated?
You can print a record of your volunteering hours after logging into your account under “My Contributions”. We update your volunteering hours on a monthly basis. You can check your contributions on the last day of the first week of the following month.
10. Can I still volunteer if I am not yet 13 years old?
Your safety is of paramount importance to us. You are most welcome to register and volunteer together with your older family or friends.
11. What are the benefits of volunteering with National Library Board and the National Archives of Singapore?
We appreciate all our volunteers who have come forth and selflessly gave their time and effort to make our libraries and archives the wonderful places they are.
Our NLB volunteers are rewarded according to the number of volunteering hours and level of service they provide. There are 4 levels of awards: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum. Our volunteer will also be invited to selected special events for volunteers.
Platinum Award Recipients who complete more than 100 volunteering hours within a calendar year (e.g. January 2023 to December 2023) will also enjoy an increase in library loan quota with the upgraded Library membership.
