About the session

In this hands-on workshop, we introduce haBEEtat, an educational game that features the 4 honey bee colony species in Singapore. Due to deforestation, honey bee colonies have had to search for homes within our urban neighbourhoods. Despite their importance to our local ecosystems, a common response is to view them as threatening and to exterminate them. The game aims to change mindsets and educate players in a fun way about alternative choices when we encounter honey bees in our neighbourhoods.

About the facilitator

Dr Tricia Seow is a sustainability education researcher and co-chair of the Sustainability Learning Lab at the National Institute of Education. Mr Eugene Goh has been been actively involved in bee rescues and relocations since 2022.  Both facilitators created the game because of their belief that honey bees need to be protected in urban Singapore.
