About the Programme 

How do you turn Southeast Asian myths, legends, and social narratives into visual stories that captivate both local and international audiences? Hear from Felicia and Kang Jing, two artist-publishers who have carved unique paths in the evolving comics world by creating deeply rooted local content in diverse visual forms. 

 

In this session, you'll discover: 

  1. How artists and publishers strive to infuse cultural authenticity into visual storytelling while building international partnerships and navigating shifting global tastes.  

  1. Creative and business strategies behind transforming comics into diverse formats—from prose-comics hybrids to animated adaptations and games.  

  1. Current trends and what’s new in the Southeast Asian and international comics publishing industry 

 

About the Speakers 

Felicia Low-Jimenez is the Publisher at Difference Engine, an independent comics publisher based in Singapore. She holds a Master’s degree in Literary Theory and Asian Studies, with a focus on anime and manga, and has worked in bookselling and publishing for over a decade. She believes that stories have the power to change the world. She is also one half of the writing team behind the bestselling Sherlock Sam series of children’s books and the writer of the young adult fantasy comic, Tiger Girls

 

Kang Jing (KJ) is a comic, cover, and sketch card artist based in Singapore. He has contributed to major franchises such as Marvel (Topps), Star Wars (Topps), Power Rangers (BOOM!), and Archie Comics, amongst many others. KJ primarily works with traditional media, bringing characters to life with bold pencil and expressive ink. Beyond his work for top publishers, KJ is also the founder and creative driving force behind Chiral Comics, where he wrote and illustrated his original action-packed wuxia comic series, ZHAO. 

 

About the Moderator 

Meihan Boey is the author of The Formidable Miss Cassidy (Epigram Books Fiction Prize co-winner 2021, Singapore Book Awards Best Literary Work 2022), its sequel The Enigmatic Madam Ingram (shortlisted for EBFP 2023 & Dublin Literary Award), and The Mystical Mister Kay (Winner of EBFP 2025). The Formidable Miss Cassidy has been released in UK/Europe (Pushkin Press) and US/Canada (Harper Perennial). She is a comics scriptwriter & Vice President of the Association of Comics Artists of Singapore, and a huge lifelong comics, manga and anime fan.
