About the Programme
Join us for a special edition of Spacebar, where we invite everyone from Singapore’s writing community to share their works-in-progress at a community reading!
Readings don’t just belong to published authors – come and read aloud the random scribbles in your journal, your unhinged observations in your notes app, or the very first few lines of that manuscript in your word doc. Let’s celebrate the unpolished rough drafts together, just because!
Don’t have anything to share at the moment? No problem! Come and listen to the sentences that have been stewing in others’ brains–from the complete beginner to the expert writer.
*The usual quiet working block is from 12pm – 2pm. The open mic readings happen from 2pm – 5pm.
Session Details
12pm – 2pm: independent free writing
2pm – 5pm: open mic for community readings and mingling
How it works:
Submit your short paragraph that you would like to read aloud at: https://go.gov.sg/spacebar-openmic. Please note that a submission does not automatically guarantee a slot. The organiser will inform you on the day itself if you’ve been accepted.
What is Spacebar?
Spacebar is designed for anyone who writes, from complete amateurs to established aficionados, to create in community, connect, and share with like-minded peers. The literary events we meet at–panels, book launches, and festivals–often showcase polished, finished works, but the writing process is far less glamorous. It can be lonely and plagued with self-doubt. Spacebar offers no quick fixes, but it provides a supportive environment where writers can gather, be mutually inspired, and navigate the beautiful challenges of your craft together.
