Start your fermentation journey right here at the library! This session will introduce you to a variety of fermented drinks through the wide range of books we have at the library. Find out about well-known favourites like kombucha and kefir as well as fascinating, lesser-known drinks like mead and kvass.

This is an open sharing session where fermentation fans and brewers are welcome to share their experience and thoughts.

Stay on for the bonus segment at the end, where there will be a short demo on making kombucha!

About the Speaker

Pearly Ma is a librarian at NLB. Her job includes bringing arts programmes to seniors at the libraries. Her first encounter with making kombucha took place when a friend passed her a starter in December 2021. That very first batch got mouldy (yikes) but thankfully she tried again and has since made over 40 batches to date (with very few cases of mould). She enjoys drinking homemade kombucha for its light fizz and refreshing flavour. She has also tried making kefir and ginger beer with varying levels of success.
