A digital gateway into the culture, history, and contributions of Singapore’s Tamil community

Explore the Encyclopedia of Singapore Tamils Through an Interactive Showcase

Discover the people, organisations, and everyday moments that have shaped the Tamil community in Singapore over the last two centuries. This travelling exhibition showcases highlights from the newly launched Encyclopedia of Singapore Tamils (EST)—a bilingual online resource developed by the National Library Board (NLB) and the Centre for Singapore Tamil Culture (CSTC).

Through interactive displays and bilingual panels, visitors can learn about lesser-known aspects of Tamil publishing, schools, signages, and even postage stamps. The exhibition draws from over 350 curated entries, making visible many contributions and experiences that may not be widely known.

The EST is designed to grow with the community—it invites new submissions and will continue to be updated over time. Visit the exhibition from August 2025 to February 2026 at four locations islandwide and explore the EST online anytime.

The exhibition schedule is as follows:

  • 3 to 31 August 2025: National Library Building, Level 7
  • 1 September to 16 November 2025: Woodlands Regional Library, Level 2
  • 18 November to 4 January 2026: Indian Heritage Centre
  • 5 January to 28 February 2026: Umar Pulavar Tamil Language Centre
