Our History
Before the new library at Pasir Ris was set up in 2000, many residents in the area were young, married couples with at least one child. The library was thus developed with the aim of reaching out to the large number of young families in the area. Our library, located at White Sands Shopping Centre, was officially opened on 6 October 2000. It underwent renovations in 2015 and was officially reopened by then Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean on 28 November 2015.
Interesting Facts
- Pasir Ris is perhaps a contraction of Pasir Hiris (in Malay) where Pasir means "Sand" and Hiris means "to shred". Pasir Ris may also translate to 'white sand'.
- Drawing inspiration from the many leisure spots in and around Pasir Ris, our library has been designed to encourage rest and relaxation while you read and learn.
What We Offer
- A new way of shelving where many books are shelved with their covers facing outwards for a more dynamic and engaging book browsing experience.
- A dedicated space for teenagers called the Teens' Mezzanine. Here teens can feel at home - with casual seating, multi-functional furniture and a doodle wall for self-expression and to hold discussions.
