Our History
Bukit Panjang Public Library was officially opened on 4 April 1998 by Dr Teo Ho Pin, then Member of Parliament for Sembawang GRC (Bukit Panjang Division). We had extensive renovations and re-opened on 1 July 2017 by Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Communications, and Information. Covering an area of 2,300 square metres, we are located in Bukit Panjang Plaza, a shopping centre in the heart of Bukit Panjang. We serve the residents in the Northwest areas of Bukit Panjang and Bukit Timah.
Interesting Facts
- Our design concept is inspired by changes to Bukit Panjang's public transport access, including a direct connection to the new Downtown Line. The coloured ribbons on the floor help visitors find their way around the library and guide them in their reading journeys.
- The Book Mountains in the Children's Zone and Adults' and Teens' Zones are creative expressions of shelving design with a gradual ramp and varying shelf heights that allow users to look out to the rest of the library.
