Facts about Woodlands Library
Our History
Woodlands Library was officially opened on 28 April 2001 by Dr Tony Tan, then-Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Defence and MP, Sembawang GRC. It was Singapore’s first full-fledged regional library following the prototype regional library in Tampines. Occupying four storeys and part of a basement over a floor space of 11,100 square meters in the Woodlands Civic Centre, it is a one-stop information centre for the northern sector of Singapore.
Interesting Facts
- When our library was opened in 2001, it attracted 100,000 visitors on Day 1.
- The reading area in our children’s section is designed as a park, with an Enchanted Tree. The nature theme is inspired by our location – we are near to three nature reserves (Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, Sungei Khatib Bongsu and Bukit Timah Nature Reserve).
What We Offer
- Calm Down to The Library is an autism-friendly space on Level 4 that aims to promote the inclusion of children with autism into the library space.
- MakeIT at Woodlands is a free-for-public makerspace that lets everyone learn about and try new technologies such as 3D printing, digital cutting, robotics, and more. No prior expertise or experience is required. Click on this brochure for more details.
