This overture, originally written for Rossini's opera "Elisabetta", is in Sonata form minus a development section. The dignified introduction leads into the allegro vivace with its brisk minor 1st subject and poised major 2nd subject. A brilliant coda after the recapitulation provides an exhilarating end to the overture.
