1997年夏季应亚洲乐团委约创作的《后土》，试图表达人类和自然的依存关系。乐曲以浓重的低音和各类非常规的音响象征厚重的大地和大自然的声音；引用四首西南地区的少数民族民歌录音，象征人类发展的四个阶段：（一）族打歌。象征人类的脚步。从远古向今天走来。（二）撤尼族姑娘的情歌。象征人类情感的丰富和成长。（三）撤尼族祭典地母的歌。通过人类对大地祭祀的宗教活动暗示人类理性和思维的发展。（四）彝族海菜腔。表达人类对未来的美好希望与祈盼。
