In 2021, the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan donated over 4,300 historical documents. These comprised records of schools established by the clan, minutes of meetings, and land sales indentures that detail the beginnings of the Thian Hock Keng temple, which was gazetted as a national monument in 1973.
One significant item is a land title deed which bears the signature of Mr Tan Tock Seng, one of Singapore’s most eminent philanthropists and a leader of the Chinese community. Tan acquired several land parcels in Telok Ayer Street in 1838 for the Thian Hock Keng Temple. The construction of the temple was completed in 1840.
