Yishun

Yishun was originally named after businessman Lim Nee Soon, nicknamed “Pineapple King” for his important role in the development of pineapple plantations in Singapore and Malaya during the early 20th century. Yishun was once home to the vibrant Chong Pang Village where residents lived in a close-knit traditional kampong before resettlement, which began in the 1970s. The development of Yishun New Town began in the 1970s, transforming the area from a farmland into a residential township. The river that once flowed through the area was turned into Lower Seletar Reservoir, which now serves as a crucial water source as well as a destination for recreational activities.
