First Cookbook Written in Singapore Makes Over 1K Sales

In March 1952, Singapore’s first cookbook, My Favourite Recipes by Ellice Handy achieved a milestone when it sold over 1,000 copies. It features a unique collection of Malay, Indonesian, Indian, Chinese and European recipes, which made it particularly appealing to home cooks of the era. Mrs. Handy was the first Singaporean principal of Methodist Girls' School and compiled these recipes from her years of cooking experience. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Sources: “A Handy Cookbook.” BiblioAsia, 31 January 2016.; “SINGAPORE COOKERY.” Straits Times, 31 March 1952, 8.
