On 17 September 1968, A&W opened at the Malaysia-Singapore Airlines (MSA) Building at Robinson Road. A&W was the first fast-food chain to open in Singapore, and was well-known for its specialty hot dogs, root beer floats and ice cream waffles. In 1986, A&W opened its ninth outlet in Orchard Shopping Centre, a departure from its usual locations in the heartlands. With its cozy ambience and distinctive menu, A&W became a favoured rendezvous spot for couples after movies. Due in part to stiff competition from other fast-food joints such as McDonald’s and Burger King, A&W closed its last outlet in Woodlands in 2003. It returned 16 years later, in 2019, to Jewel Changi Airport, much to the delight of its fans. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Sources: Marsita Omar.
