Abstract
As Dr Ng Eng Teng passed away in 2001, the video comprises a series of interviews with people who knew him or have some association with his artworks, such as Ms Christine Khor, Director, NUS Centre for the Arts; Ms Foo Su Ling, Outreach Manager, NUS Museum; Dr Lai Chee Kien of the Department of Architecture, NUS, and Mr Ahmad Mashadi, Head, NUS Museum. Footages include the interviewees’ impressions on Dr Ng’s personality, the practice of his art, his contributions to education, the significance of his works in Singapore’s art development, as well as of his art. There is also a showcase of the various art forms of Dr Ng, such as oil painting, sculptures in bronze, stoneware glaze and ciment-fondu, his favoured medium. Included in the video also are his donations of sculptures to NUS Museums and the Ng Eng Teng Gallery. The video ends with a series of his self-portraits. For his outstanding achievements as the foremost sculptor in Singapore, Ng was awarded the Cultural Medallion in 1981.
