Abstract
Traces Singapore's development as the region's stalwart financial centre which started in the 1820s, when banks were needed to finance the export of trade produce and the import and export trade, to the financial district as we know today at the heart of Raffles Place. Also looks at those who had risked much to buld up Singapore's heritage of financial institutions.
