Thomas Stamford Raffles (1781-1826) was a British civil servant and statesman best known for his founding of Singapore. Raffles was Lieutenant-Governor of Java in 1811 and he was instrumental in maintaining the British stronghold in the Dutch East Indies. Olivia Mariamne Devenish (1771-26 November 1814), was the first wife of Thomas Stamford Raffles, vice governor of Java (1811-1816), from 1805 to 1814.--Wikipedia.
