A photograph showing parts of the Modern Tropical House. Also known as King Albert Park House or the Kwan House, it has all the attributes of a well-designed house in the tropics including major living spaces which are 'open to sky', optimal orientation to catch the prevailing breezes, openess to encourage cross-ventilation, extensive use of water and planting, wide overhanging eaves, secondary shading devices and the restriction of air-conditioning only to those rooms where it is strictly necessary. This house was built for Mr Robert Kwan, the person who brought McDonalds into Singapore.
