The 1st work opera excerpts, adapted for orchestra; 2nd work a symphonic poem. The 1st work is the 1945 ed., a single-movement work published by Boosey & Hawkes, which may or may not have been created or even authorized by Strauss. The conductor Artur Rodzinski is believed to have been involved in its genesis. An earlier, multi-movement "Suite aus der Musik zum Rosenkavalier," edited by an "N. Nambuat" [possibly Otto Taubmann, 1859-1929?] was published in Berlin by A. Fürstner (c1911). Both editions claimed to be Strauss's op. 59. (See Mueller von Asow, E.H. Richard Strauss thematisches Verzeichnis, v. 3, p. 1322-1323 -- (Wien : L. Doblinger, 1974).) Compact disc. Program notes in English, French, and German (1 volume (unpaged) : portraits) inserted in container. Recorded at Birmingham Symphony Hall: May 28 (1st work) and June 22, 24, and 27 2009 (2nd work). City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra ; Andris Nelsons, conductor.
