Abstract
Pacino tries to make Shakespeare's gripping drama of power, lust and betrayal become accessible to a broader audience. He talks to English and American actors and directors, interviews Shakespearean scholars and asks the average man on the street about both Shakespeare and Richard. His camera also follows cast and crew throughout rehearsals, eavesdropping on the behind-the-scenes process that goes into creating characters and mounting a production.
