This is a half-length portrait of Dato Wong Siew Qui, a prominent Chinese lawyer, businessman, and millionaire. He was Chairman of Overseas Assurance Corporation Limited from 1931 to 1969. Dato Wong was admitted to the Middle Temple and called to the Bar in 1911. He was President of Straits Chinese British Association (1924); Member of Singapore Municipal Commission (1921-1938); Chairman of Singapore Traction Company (1964-1968) and Great Eastern Life Assurance Company (1951-May 1969); and Director of Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Limited (1932-1968) and Sime Darby Holdings Limited (1964-1972). His father was Mr. Wong Ah Fook, founder of the first local Kwong Yik Bank in Singapore in 1903. Title devised by Library staff.
